Divide submissions into Sub groups

1. Introduction

You can create sub-groups of students in your module or course group to allow students to collaborate on projects, assignments or other types of group work. You might want these to match your pre-defined seminar groups.

There are two options to create groups: Create Single Sub-Group or Create Sub-group Set (multiple groups at once.)

2. Create Assignments

You can find out more about creating Sub-groups in our guide. Create your preferred Sub-groups, then create assignments for each of the groups.

If you’re not sure which type of assignment you need to create, please view our assessment and feedback ‘at a glance’ guide.
a. Create an assignment (Turnitin or Blackboard) for each Sub-group, giving the assignment a name that identifies which colleagues will mark it.
b. Click the action link (arrow) next to the assignment name, and click Adaptive Release.
Important: With Adaptive Release, students will only see the assignment they need to submit to. Instructors can still see and access all assignments.
c. The Membership section allows you to make the assignment visible to specific users. In the Items to Select box there’s a list of the Sub-groups you created earlier. Click the Sub-group you’re making the assignment visible to, then click the right arrow to move the Sub-group into the Selected Items box.
d. Click Submit.
