1. Introduction

This guide provides information for staff about the different portal views available in MyBeckett, and how these are assigned.

What are MyBeckett portal views?

As the University's portal and virtual learning environment, MyBeckett allows staff and students to access a range of systems, services, module teaching materials and online assessments and feedback tools.

The layout and content that you see when you log in to MyBeckett is known as your portal view. Each portal view has been designed for a particular group of users, based on student and staff feedback.


2. Current portal views in MyBeckett

Current portal views include:

  • Student
  • Staff
  • Distance Learning
  • Degree Apprenticeship and Degree Apprenticeship - JD Wetherspoon
  • Franchise partners
  • Carnegie Leaders in Learning
  • International Study Centre
  • Research
  • Alumni

3. Student portal view

The student portal view provides access to the following tabs:

  • Course: This tab pulls together Course / School information and communications in one place.
  • Modules: This tab contains the My Modules list as well as information about academic regulations, exam papers, service availability for learning systems, and results online.
  • Timetables: This tab contains links to timetables, timetable news, academic calendars and exam timetables.
  • Library: This tab provides access to resources, the Library website, help, academic skills development and more.
  • Support: This tab provides links to help and advice from a range of services.
  • Opportunities: This tab contains a wide range of opportunities available to students, from employability services to volunteering, and more.
  • SU: This tab contains news, articles and events from the Students' Union, as well as information about societies, and more.
  • Files: This tab provides access to web files and cloud storage.
  • IT: This tab includes access to student IT help, email, software such as Microsoft Office, PC availability, eduroam, printing and more.
  • My Account: This tab provides links for updating personal information, printing a Council Tax discount letter, University accommodation and more.

4. Staff portal view

The staff portal view provides access to the following tabs:

  • Staff Home: This tab contains quick links to guides and course groups.
  • Modules: This tab contains the My Modules list as well as information about academic regulations, exam papers, service availability for learning systems, and results online.
  • Timetables: This tab contains links to timetables, timetable news, academic calendars and exam timetables.
  • Library: This tab provides access to resources, the Library website, help, academic skills development and more.

  • Support: This tab provides links to help and advice from a range of services.

  • Opportunities: This tab contains a wide range of opportunities available to students, from employability services to volunteering, and more.

  • SU: This tab contains news, articles and events from the Students' Union, as well as information about societies, and more.

  • Files: This tab provides access to web files and cloud storage.

  • IT: This tab includes access to student IT help, email, software such as Microsoft Office, PC availability, eduroam, printing and more.

  • Tools: This tab provides useful tools for staff, such as the Module / Course Group Manager & Communicator.
  • Training: This tab provides links to book staff training, online training modules and guides.

5. Distance learning portal view

Distance learning students have access to a customised portal view, providing access to the following tabs:

  • Welcome: This tab contains quick links to information and course groups.
  • Modules: This tab contains the My Modules list as well as information about academic regulations, service availability for learning systems, and results online.
  • Library: This tab provides access to resources, the Library website, the offsite service, academic skills development and more.
  • Support: This tab provides links to help and advice from a range of services.
  • Opportunities: This tab contains a wide range of opportunities available to students, from employability services to volunteering, and more.

  • Files: This tab provides links to cloud storage.

  • IT: This tab includes access to student IT help, email, software such as Microsoft Office, Google Takeout, and more.

  • My Account: This tab provides links for updating personal information, and more.


6. Degree apprenticeship portal views

The standard degree apprenticeship portal view provides access to the following tabs:

  • Course: This tab contains quick links to useful tools and course groups.
  • Modules: This tab contains the My Modules list as well as information about academic regulations, academic integrity and a link to PebblePad.
  • Library: This tab provides access to resources, the Library website and academic skills development.
  • Support: This tab provides links to help and advice from a range of services.
  • Opportunities: This tab contains a wide range of opportunities available to students.
  • SU: This tab contains news, articles and events from the Students' Union, as well as information about societies, and more.
  • IT: This tab includes access to email and Microsoft Office 365.
  • My Account: This tab provides links to the Welcome and Registration system, to update personal information, and use the password manager.

The customised JD Wetherspoon portal view provides access to the following tabs:

  • Course: This tab contains quick links to useful tools and course groups.
  • Modules: This tab contains the My Modules list as well as information about academic regulations, academic integrity and a link to PebblePad.
  • Library: This tab provides access to resources, the Library website and academic skills development.
  • Support: This tab provides links to help and advice from a range of services.
  • Opportunities: This tab contains a wide range of opportunities available to students.
  • SU: This tab contains news, articles and events from the Students' Union, as well as information about societies, and more.
  • IT: This tab includes access to email and Microsoft Office 365.
  • My Account: This tab provides links to the Welcome and Registration system, to update personal information, and use the password manager.

7. Franchise portal views

There are a number of different portal views for franchise partners. These portal views provide access to the following tabs:

  • Home
  • Library
  • My Account
  • Help

Please note, the content displayed on these tabs will vary depending on the franchise partner.


8. International Study Centre portal view

International Study Centre students have access to a customised portal view:

  • Leeds ISC: This tab provides links to the LISC Online Admin Office, important contacts, links to course groups and useful study skills.
  • Modules: This tab contains the My Modules list as well as information about academic regulations, and service availability for learning systems.
  • Library: This tab provides access to the Library website, help, student meeting rooms, and library account details.
  • Support: This tab provides links to help and advice from a range of services.
  • Opportunities: This tab contains a wide range of opportunities available to students, from employability services to volunteering, and more.
  • SU: This tab contains news, articles and events from the Students' Union, as well as information about societies, and more.
  • Files: This tab provides access to web files and cloud storage.
  • IT: This tab includes access to email, PC availability, eduroam, printing and more.

9. Research portal view

The research portal view is available to research students. It provides access to the same tabs as the student portal view, with the addition of the Research tab, and exception of the Timetable and SU tabs.

The Research tab contains links to research and PhD support, information about academic integrity and checking your prospective thesis/journal with Turnitin, and more.


10. Alumni portal view

The alumni portal view provides access to the same tabs as the student portal view, with the addition of the Alumni tab.

The Alumni tab provides information about staying in touch with the University, updating personal information, creating a PebblePad alumni account, Google Takeout, alumni services, careers and employability support, My Hub and postgraduate skills.

This portal view only appears when students are leaving the University.
