Online Learning Tutors

Online Learning Tutors

Our Online Learning Tutors (OLTs) work to support specific courses, taking on a pastoral role for students that focuses on their engagement and general study ability. They support the academic Module Leader, allowing the Module Leader to concentrate on the academic delivery of the module. They also support the team during module development, providing a critical friend who highlights improvements to the student experience.

The vision for online learning tutors:
Providing academic skills support and guidance toboth staff and students ensuring the best possible experience for our distance learners.

The mission statement for the online learning tutor community:
  • To provide an effective service that contributes to a positive student experience.
  • To identify, share, develop, continuously improve and promote best practice across the University.
  • To ensure our students studying online are engaged and supported and feel part of a University community.
  • To be a supportive community for online learning tutors in the University and for others engaged in that role.
  • To support and advise academic colleagues in design and delivery of online modules and courses.
  • To support students in the development of their academic skills.
  • To feed back to course teams and instructional designers and services the improvements that can be made to the student experience.
In the video below, Dr Jane Turner talks about her role as an Online Learning Tutor.
