New to Teaching

This section of resources is aimed at staff who are new to teaching at Leeds Beckett or those are taking on a teaching responsibility for the first time. The content on these pages is modified from the Leeds Beckett book 'In at the Deep End' book written by  Phil Race.

New to Teaching

Teaching is more than just knowing your stuff, it can include giving lectures, running lab classes, taking tutorials, assessing student work, giving feedback and being an academic advisor.  This can be scary especially when you may have experienced all these activities as a student but do not know where to begin in delivering it.  The first thing to think about is where to get support and guidance as you begin the process of teaching.

There are a number of staff development opportunities through out the academic year including academic staff induction, technology training, Course Director sessions and many other courses through people development. All these sessions can be found by visiting the People and Organisational Development website here or by visiting the Centre for Learning and Teaching website here

You can access a copy of the e-book 'In at the Deep End' via the library catalogue here
