Library support

Working with you

The Library Academic Support Team can contribute to your course planning. Your Academic Librarian can:

  • Take part in the course planning/development process
  • Take part in course revalidation
  • Advise on appropriate resources
  • Develop reading lists
  • Advise on specialised services and resources for distance learning courses
  • Help you to integrate academic skills into your course modules.

View your School Annual Report

Libraries and Learning Innovation annual reports present information on the information resources, teaching and support available to each School, summarising School-specific Library activities over the past year and also outlining future priorities.

View the LLI Collection Development Strategy

Libraries and Learning Innovation produces an annual Collection Development Strategy outlining how funding for resources is allocated and how LLI facilitates access to resources purchased to support the curriculum.

Resources for your course

Search the Library Catalogue for details of books, eBooks and  other resources held in the Library. If you are looking for a specific journal you can search our A-Z list of journals.

Discover is our academic search engine, which searches a wide variety of academic databases, journals and other resources.

Subject guides highlight subject specific resources for students.

If resources are not available online, the Library's Digitisation Service can (subject to licensing) make chapters or articles available so you can link to them from MyBeckett. For more information, please see our guide Scanning print materials for use in MyBeckett.

To suggest resources for purchasing, please contact your Academic Librarian including as much information as possible.

Creating reading lists for your students

The University has an online reading list system. It enables students to access an online list of recommended resources for their module which are accessible directly from MyBeckett, making it simpler for students.

All modules are required to have a reading list.

Lists can be managed from the relevant module page of MyBeckett. There is support available for using MyBeckett.

For help with creating an online reading list for your course, please contact your Academic Librarian.

Adding items to Short Loan

When resources are likely to be in high demand over a short time period, please recommend them for Short Loan. These items have limited loan periods of either 4 hours, overnight or 3 days. You can lend us your own books or other items for this collection on a temporary basis if the Library is unable to obtain copies - for example if they are out of print.

Course packs consisting of compilations of photocopied published material can be created under the terms of the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) Licence, placed in Short Loan, and further copied under licence. Provided that the copied material is covered by the Licence and that the copying limits set by the Licence are observed, no additional copyright clearance is required.

Where copying falls outside of the scope of the Licence, our Copyright Clearance Service can help with any clearance required.
